It was a pleasure to attend the Dawn Blessing of the new Alan Gibbs Centre at Wellington College today. Initiated in 2011 the project replaces two previous school halls. The first, completed in 1930, was a memorial to old boys who lost their lives in WW1. This hall was damaged in the 1967 earthquake and replaced by the second hall. The new building has nearly twice the capacity and will be able to accommodate the entire school community at assemblies. It will also function as a multipurpose space for performance art and other events. It is largely funded by the generous donations of many old boys and their families.
