Stuart Gardyne’s own family home is a 30-year work in progress. The Victorian ‘four-square’ house has been the subject of two major renovations and numerous minor amendments, and now exhibits an eclectic mix of contemporary additions and alterations. The original kitchen lean-to, for instance, has become a north-facing courtyard with the enclosure defined by the partial retention of old brick walls, while living spaces have been reconfigured to occupy the dwelling’s middle three levels, with bedrooms above and below.
